Should You Enroll?

Grantwriting is not magic. It's a learnable skill that takes time, focus, and follow-through. This course is not a magic shortcut; so consider enrolling only if you can answer yes below:

  • Will you set aside at least 2-4 hours each week for the video lessons, live Q&A sessions, and coaching, and complete your assignments?
  • Do you have a reliable internet-enabled device that allows you to watch videos, download documents, and participate in web-based conversations?
  • Do you have the skills and equipment to navigate websites, download and print from the internet, and participate in video conferencing?
  • Can you describe in detail the program for which you want grant funds?

I don't just want you to enroll, I want you to succeed! So if you didn't answer yes to all those questions, Your First Proposal is probably not a good fit for you right now. If you have questions about the course you can CONTACT ME.

The Founder

Hello! I’m LaCharla Figgs, founder of T.L. Figgs Nonprofit Consulting and Nonprofit Startup Academy LLC. I'm a 25+ year veteran of nonprofit management, grant making, and consulting.

Many years ago, I wanted to start a nonprofit, and I had no idea how to start. And I knew nothing about the nonprofit sector.

Fast-forward a few years, and I was working with community-based nonprofits, teaching them about federal regs, helping them improve their financial systems, training boards, addressing staffing issues and even managing a grantmaking program.

But one of my greatest joys was helping a compassionate woman create a residential program for moms graduating from drug rehab. She had been serving young women one at a time in her own home and had a bigger vision. Helping her create an aftercare program was one of the most rewarding things I've done in my career.

So in 2017 I created Nonprofit Startup Academy to help compassionate people like her bring their visions of serving people to life! Instead of wading through government regulations, paperwork, board development, grantwriting, and the rest alone, they would have a mentor to help them move more easily into their Purpose.

It's still some of my most rewarding work. I love working with visionaries who refuse to wait for "someone somewhere" to make a difference. And I can't imagine a better job!
